Americana: Charlize Theron in A Million Ways to Die in the West

Cowgirl Chic beats Hippie Chic this season.

Summer trends are generally very one dimensional. Although florals, bright colours, cut-off denim and anything boho are great looks, for these warmer months you should channel the Western-look.

Seth MacFarlane's hugely disappointing and completely unfunny A Million Ways to Die in the West had only one thing going for it: Anna (Charlize Theron). She's a badass. She's smart. She's cool. And she rocks those cowboy boots, that long skirt, that button-down shirt and fedora.

Definite summer-style inspiration.

Costume designer Cindy Evans has also worked on Thirteen (2003), Lords of Dogtown (2005), Red Riding Hood (2011), Savages (2012) and August: Osage County (2013). Another one to keep an eye on.

Although everything about Anna is basically perfect, it may be best not to attend any square dances held in a barn. Just a thought.

Fashion Fail: Charlize Theron in Young Adult

Is this my life?

There's something spectacularly frightening about Young Adult (2011). The film in itself is hardly spectacular, but the story of a divorced 30-something woman who writes a young adult fiction series, yet is still clinging on to her high school persona, somehow resonates fear within me. Why? Well, the only thing I could think of when I watched this was:

Am I going to be wearing that Hello Kitty shirt when I'm 30? Will I worsen the situation by pairing it with tracksuit-bottoms and a matching hoodie? Or heaven forbid; will I wear UGGs?

One's future is never clear, and now more so than ever, I am unclear about where my future will take me.

Let's just hope it won't be back to my hometown, where I attempt to win back my married ex-boyfriend, whilst dressed like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton circa 2006.

In terms of style inspiration, Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron) is the antithesis of it.

Creepy Couture: Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman

There are just not enough occasions in life when you can
lose your shit like the Evil Queen does.

I watched Snow White and the Hunstman (2012) when I was feeling a little blue yesterday, and I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Maybe it's because I thought Kristen Stewart was supposed to be the lead character in the film, but it turned out to that she hardly even spoke. She was just there.

Which was totally fine by me.

Charlize Theron obviously stole the show. Apparently her character's name is Ravenna, but I prefer to call her the Evil Queen. The Evil Queen's costumes were so amazing, I actually had to pause the film every now and then just so I could analyse them properly.

Did you know the costume designer, Colleen Atwood, has been nominated for an Oscar TEN times? And WON it three times (for Alice in Wonderland, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Chicago)?

I have crazy respect for this woman right now.

AND she said that, for the Evil Queen's costumes, "there's always an element of trapped death". OH. MY. GAWD. Love her.

Anyway, enough gushing.

The reason why I loved her costumes so much was because they we not only tremendously elaborate, but they were harsh, fantastical, and even a little scary at times (oh, and there were feathers. I LOVE feathers).

I will definitely watch this movie again, but fast-forward past everything else, and just watch the Queen. She's so demented, but stylish. She has these claw-like ring things that she uses to eat animals' HEARTS. What an icon.
